I want to start building simple designs (takes about a few hours to make) and then move on to more complex builds (1-2 days of building). I will probably label them and observe the how sustainable of a habitat the box is for the bees living in it. How will I be determining that? Not entirely sure yet.
-Wooden blocks (not treated with preservatives) + Slabs for a roof
-Container to hold the sticks in (coffee can, plastic bucket, etc)
-Chicken wire (for protection from larger predators)
OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:
-Compass (the placement of the nest is important)
UPDATE (4/1/14): I went over to the local hardware store to pick up supplies, unfortunately I was only able to grab medium sized bamboo sticks, and the only ones that weren't cracked all the way through. I also went to see the carpentry teacher at school earlier to see if I can use scrap wood to build the wooden block nest. Will be meeting with him again tomorrow to go over my design and make a build plan!
