So what does that mean towards the goal of the research? The answer won't be "yes" several years from now. More code would have to be added, and the new ones may clash with the old. Code can't restructure like neurons in a brain can. Errors are bound to show up. By that time it's better off to create a new one from scratch.
Would this concept apply to the social structure of bees as well? Can a single change to a bee affect the whole colony? Given that the bee is either a queen or a drone, possibly. The larva from those would probably gain the new genetic trait.
